Contemporary figurative painting of a woman – Velvet Hour

An effortless, almost cinematic elegance
Velvet Hour depicts a woman seated in an armchair with sculptural lines, a glass in her hand, accompanied by a greyhound peacefully lying at her feet. Around her, a few elements are enough to tell a whole universe: a large plant with burgundy leaves, a record player, books, and an interior with subdued colors. Nothing truly seems to be happening, yet the scene possesses a real presence.
The silhouette immediately catches the eye. The lilac suit with deliberately amplified volumes contrasts with the orange of the scarf and the olive, dusty pink, and cream tones of the decor. The fine, almost sketched drawing tempers these exaggerated proportions and gives the work a very editorial elegance.
This figurative painting with a contemporary spirit therefore does not seek photographic realism. It reinterprets a daily scene to make it a suspended moment, somewhere between fashion portrait, illustration, and contemporary painting.
A painting that tells a story of a lifestyle
The charm of Velvet Hour largely lies in its details. The glass held at arm's length, the record placed on the turntable, the relaxed posture of the character, and the greyhound all create the impression of discreetly entering an apartment at a very specific time of day.
The palette is unusual: lilac dialogues with deep olive green, while the pink of the floor softens the whole. These slightly muted colors allow the work to be easily integrated into a contemporary living room, bedroom, or office without losing its character.
Portrait lovers can also discover our paintings of women, while its narrative and graphic approach naturally finds its place in our collection of contemporary figurative paintings.
An Iconik-Art creation unavailable elsewhere
Velvet Hour is an original creation from our studio, unavailable elsewhere and made in France. Several finishes allow its rendering to be adapted to the desired atmosphere.
The 100% cotton canvas, 340 g/m², stretched over a solid wood frame, emphasizes the pictorial character of the drawing and provides a warm presence. For those looking for a contemporary canvas painting capable of dressing a large wall without a standardized decorative effect, this finish is particularly consistent with this composition.
The PVC, thin and rigid, favors a clearer reading. Its smooth surface highlights the large lilac, olive, and pink solid areas, as well as the fineness of the contours.
Finally, aluminum gives the composition a more refined and precise appearance. Its physical thinness is particularly suitable for an architectural environment or an interior with minimalist lines.
With its enigmatic character, its greyhound, and its delightfully retro-contemporary atmosphere, Velvet Hour transforms an ordinary scene into a true portrait of attitude.

How to choose a modern painting for your home?
Choosing a modern painting primarily depends on the atmosphere you wish to create in your home. A graphic and contrasting wall art piece will add character to a contemporary living room, while an abstract or minimalist painting will naturally fit into a minimalist space.
The size of the painting also plays an essential role. A large format work becomes a strong focal point, whereas a more discreet format allows for harmonious integration with existing decor. Colors, contrasts, and artistic style must interact with the room's volumes and materials.
The choice of finish medium fully contributes to the final rendering of the artwork. Iconik-Art paintings are available on a stretched canvas frame for an authentic and pictorial look, on expanded PVC for a contemporary and lightweight finish, or on aluminum for a modern effect with subtle and elegant reflections.
Iconik-Art collections are designed to adapt to different living spaces, whether it's a living room, an office, or a bedroom. Each decorative painting is conceived to provide a strong visual signature while remaining consistent with the interior's balance.
How to hang the painting?
There are several methods for hanging a picture depending on the type of wall (plasterboard, concrete, wallpaper, etc.), but the simplest and most practical solution remains adhesive strips or nails (like TESA or 3M).
These systems are perfectly suited to our supports (canvas frame, aluminum or expanded PVC panel), require no drilling, and can be removed without leaving any traces if used correctly.
👉 Please note: We provide 4 adhesive strips per picture
